A Special Little Friend

As I was desperately trying to capture this beautiful day, my eyes fell upon a sparrow -or shalik as we say in bengali- It seemed to have noticed me long before I saw it, and when I did, it shyly looked away.

So I slowly got out my phone, afraid to scare-off this innocent creature; and it struck a pose! It really did! And when I smiled I believe it gained a little bit of confidence and it began to sing! All while stylishly modeling for the camera.

I watched this newfound companion for quite a while. You'd be surprised how much you can learn by just watching. Or maybe I was learning from myself, because the bird never really spoke to me; I was speaking to myself through this winged animal. Maybe that is how you find out who you are: by pretending that someone else does, and by pretending that that someone can tell you this unwonted secret.

I imagine I became friends with the sparrow that day, and now when I go up to the roof I will keep an eye out for it; and I suspect that we will make this a little game of our own.

I really do hope to speak soon. Thank you for making me smile that day, little friend.
